TrackBod Alternative: An Honest TrackBod vs Fitycal Comparison

Updated 17 October 2026

TrackBod (styled trackBod on the App Store) is an iPhone app that estimates your body fat percentage from two photos: one from the front and one from the side. It is popular, simple and quick. People who look for a TrackBod alternative usually want one of three things: more measurements than a body fat number, a way to see where their body changed, or an app that works on Android. This page compares TrackBod with Fitycal side by side. Every TrackBod fact comes from its App Store listing, checked on 17 October 2026. TrackBod does not list a website of its own, so the listing is the only official source.

Disclosure: Fitycal is our app. We have tried to be fair, and we say plainly where TrackBod is the better pick.

Short version: Stick with TrackBod if you want a fast, photo-based body fat estimate on iPhone from an app with a large, well rated user base. Pick Fitycal if you want a 3D body scan instead of flat photos: a 10-second 360 degree scan, an HD avatar you can rotate, 25+ circumference measurements, scans side by side, and a monthly workout plan built from your latest scan, on iPhone or Android.

What TrackBod actually does

TrackBod is made by SHOOTFORTHEMOON LLC. You answer a few questions, take a front photo and a side photo, and the app returns a body composition analysis (App Store). Over its updates it has added muscle ratings (version 2.2), a BMI feature and recommended workouts (version 2.4) and a shareable Physique Card (version 3.4), according to the version history on the same listing. In a reply to a reviewer, the developer explains that BMI comes from the height and weight you enter, not from the photos, and that photos from your gallery can now be used.

Despite the "AI Body Scan" name, TrackBod works from 2D photos. The listing does not describe a 3D model or an avatar.

What TrackBod does well

  • Speed and simplicity. Two photos and a few questions. There is no 360 degree turn and no need to prop the phone at a set distance for a full rotation.

  • Track record. About 1,100 ratings at 4.8 on the US App Store is far more public feedback than Fitycal has. Reviewers praise its visual progress tracking and goal setting (App Store).

  • Active development. The version history shows more than 20 releases since January 2025, the latest on 17 September 2026 with "increased accuracy" in the notes (App Store).

  • Gallery photos. The developer says you can now analyse photos from your camera roll, which helps if you already have a library of progress shots.

Where TrackBod falls short

  • Photos, not a 3D model. A front and a side photo give the AI two outlines to work from. You get an estimate, but the listing does not describe circumference measurements or a body model you can turn around.

  • Analysis is behind the paywall. The listing says analysis and access to analysis content need an active subscription, and it shows eight overlapping subscription products, which makes the real price hard to read before you install.

  • iPhone only. We found no Android version and no website for TrackBod.

  • Accuracy is not published. The listing makes no accuracy claim and cites no study. One reviewer noted that its body composition numbers differed from their smart scale (App Store reviews). That alone proves little, since smart scales vary too, but there is no published data to settle it.

  • Privacy label. The developer reports that photos, contact info, advertising data and sensitive info may be linked to your identity, and that usage data may be used to track you (App Store privacy section, developer reported).

Where Fitycal fits

Fitycal is a 3D body scan tracker. You turn once in front of your phone camera for about 10 seconds and it builds an HD avatar you can rotate, then reports body fat %, lean mass, fat mass and 25+ circumferences. You can put any two scans side by side and see the change in each measurement, and each month it builds a workout plan from your latest scan. It runs on iPhone and Android.

Where it is weaker: Fitycal is new and has very few public ratings, and it cannot analyse old progress photos, because it needs a fresh 360 degree scan. It is also not a food tracker. If a quick body fat number from two photos is all you want, TrackBod does that with less effort.

Why every Fitycal scan asks for your weight

A camera sees shape, not mass. Fitycal combines your body shape from the scan with your current weight to estimate fat mass and lean mass, so each scan asks you to enter your weight from any ordinary scale. The scale still matters: the scan shows where change happened, the scale gives the total.

How accurate are photo apps and 3D scans?

Neither TrackBod nor Fitycal has a peer-reviewed DEXA validation of its own estimate. What we know comes from research on the methods in general:

  • Photo-based estimates can be good in controlled conditions. A 2022 study of Amazon's smartphone photo method in 134 adults found a mean absolute error of about 2.2 body fat points against DXA (Majmudar et al., npj Digital Medicine, 2022). That study was funded by Amazon and tested Amazon's own model, so it says nothing direct about TrackBod.

  • 3D phone scans were tested in a 2024 study of 131 adults, which found very high repeatability but a mean absolute error of about 3.5 body fat points against DXA (Tinsley et al., Frontiers in Medicine, 2024).

The practical lesson is the same for both: a single number can be a few points off, so scan or photograph yourself the same way each time and watch the trend. Our phone body scan vs DEXA accuracy guide goes deeper.

When to stick with TrackBod

  • You only want a body fat estimate and BMI, fast, with no scanning routine.

  • You already have years of progress photos in your gallery and want them analysed.

  • You trust a large, well rated user base more than a new app.

  • You are on iPhone and do not need Android.

Who should pick Fitycal instead

  • You want to see where your body changed, not only a percentage: waist, hips and 25+ circumferences over time.

  • You want a 3D avatar you can rotate and compare scan to scan.

  • You want a workout plan that updates from your latest results.

  • You are on Android, or you share progress with someone who is.

FAQ

What is a good alternative to TrackBod?

If you want a 3D body scan rather than two photos, Fitycal is a TrackBod alternative on iPhone and Android: a 10-second 360 degree scan, an HD avatar, body fat %, lean mass, 25+ circumferences and side by side scan comparisons. If you want to stay with photo-based tracking on iPhone, GainFrame is another option.

What is the best free alternative to TrackBod?

No app in this category is fully free with every feature. ZOZOFIT has a free Base plan that includes scans, measurements and body fat % (zozofit.com). Fitycal is free for the first month, then paid. TrackBod itself is free to download, but its analysis needs a subscription.

Is TrackBod a real 3D body scan?

No. Despite the "AI Body Scan" name, TrackBod estimates body composition from a front and a side photo, and its listing does not describe a 3D model (App Store).

Is TrackBod accurate?

TrackBod does not publish an accuracy figure or a validation study on its listing. Research on photo and phone scan methods in general shows errors of roughly 2 to 4 body fat points for individuals, so use any app for trends rather than one exact number.

Does TrackBod work on Android?

Not as of 17 October 2026. TrackBod is listed on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Apple Silicon Mac, and we found no Google Play version. Fitycal runs on both iPhone and Android.

The bottom line

TrackBod is a quick, well rated way to get a body fat estimate from two photos on iPhone. If you want more than that number, try Fitycal: do a 10-second 360 degree scan with your phone today, scan again in four weeks, and compare the two side by side to see exactly where you changed.
