Fitycal vs ZOZOFIT vs Bodymapp: A Fair 3D Body Scan App Comparison

Updated 16 October 2026

ZOZOFIT, Bodymapp and Fitycal all turn a phone into a 3D body scanner. They are often named together when people ask which body scan app to use, but they work in quite different ways: different sensors, different setups, different prices and different ideas of what you do with the scan afterwards. This page compares them side by side. Every ZOZOFIT and Bodymapp fact comes from the company's own website or App Store listing, checked on 16 October 2026.

Disclosure: Fitycal is our app. We have tried to be fair, and we say plainly where ZOZOFIT or Bodymapp is the better pick.

Short version: Pick ZOZOFIT if you want the cheapest well reviewed option with a free plan and detailed tape-style measurements. Pick Bodymapp if you have a Face ID iPhone and want a depth-sensor scan with body composition detail. Pick Fitycal if you want a quick 360 degree scan, side by side scan comparisons and a monthly workout plan built from your latest scan, on iPhone or Android.

ZOZOFIT: what it does well and where it falls short

ZOZOFIT comes from ZOZO, the Japanese company behind the ZOZOSUIT, a dotted bodysuit for at-home measuring. The app now scans without the suit; the suit is optional and comes with a free upgrade to Premium (zozofit.com).

Does well:

  • Price. The Base plan is free and already includes scans, measurements, body fat %, BMI, trend graphs and comparisons (zozofit.com). Premium is among the cheapest paid tiers in this category.

  • Visual progress. Side-by-side scans, color maps of where you grew or shrank, and a shareable transformation video (App Store).

  • Track record. About 7,900 App Store ratings at 4.7, far more public feedback than Bodymapp or Fitycal.

Falls short:

  • Setup time. A scan takes up to 2 minutes and the app guides you on where to stand, what to wear and how to pose (App Store release notes). Some reviewers describe trouble getting detected at the right distance.

  • Newer iPhones only. iOS 18.6 or later, with iPhone 12 Pro or newer recommended (App Store).

  • No training plan. It suggests fitness videos but does not build a program from your scan.

Bodymapp: what it does well and where it falls short

Bodymapp grew out of mPort, which ran infrared body scanning pods before moving to a phone app in 2022 (Club Solutions Magazine, 2023). The app uses the iPhone's Face ID depth sensor rather than the normal camera.

Does well:

  • Depth sensing. The TrueDepth sensor measures depth directly instead of inferring shape from a flat image (App Store).

  • Body composition detail. Skeletal muscle mass, visceral fat, BMR and a split into muscle, bone, organs and water, plus posture and health reports (App Store release notes).

  • Avatar comparison. Interactive 3D avatars you can compare side by side over time (bodymapp.co).

Falls short:

  • iPhone only, Face ID only. No Android app is listed, and iPhone SE models do not work (App Store; bodymapp.co).

  • Price. After one free scan, it is $19.99 a month or $49.99 a year, the most expensive of the three on a monthly basis (App Store).

  • Little public feedback. 6 ratings on the US App Store, with one reviewer noting that it "sometimes works well" and sometimes does not.

Where Fitycal fits

Fitycal is built around a fast scan and what you do next with it: a 10-second 360 degree phone scan, an HD avatar you can rotate, 25+ measurements, scans side by side, and a monthly workout plan built from your latest scan. It runs on both iPhone and Android.

Where it is weaker: Fitycal is new and has very few public ratings, and it does not track food. If you want a free plan with no time limit, ZOZOFIT has one; Fitycal is free for the first month only.

Fitycal was co-founded with Dr. Adil Tal, a doctor and coach.

How accurate are ZOZOFIT, Bodymapp and Fitycal?

Neither ZOZOFIT nor Bodymapp publishes a validation study of its body fat estimate against DEXA on its site or listing, and we could not find a peer-reviewed one. Their accuracy wording is marketing ("precise body measurements", "accurate body measurements").

What we do know comes from research on phone scanning in general. A 2024 study of a smartphone 3D scanning app in 131 adults found very high repeatability but a mean absolute error of about 3.5 body fat points against DXA (Tinsley et al., Frontiers in Medicine, 2024). That pattern applies to Fitycal too: phone scans are best for tracking your own trend, not for one exact number. Our phone body scan vs DEXA accuracy guide explains it in detail.

Why every Fitycal scan asks for your weight

A camera sees shape, not mass. Fitycal combines your body shape with your current weight to estimate fat mass and lean mass, so each scan asks you to enter your weight. A scale still has a place in your routine: the scan shows where change happened, the scale gives the total.

Who should pick which

  • You want free and well reviewed: ZOZOFIT.

  • You have a Face ID iPhone and want depth sensing and body composition detail: Bodymapp.

  • You are on Android: ZOZOFIT or Fitycal; Bodymapp is iPhone only.

  • You want a quick scan and a training plan that follows your results: Fitycal.

  • You are coming from a weight loss program with its own scan: see our Noom body scan alternative guide.

FAQ

Is ZOZOFIT better than Bodymapp?

It depends on what you need. ZOZOFIT is cheaper, has a free plan, works on Android and has far more ratings. Bodymapp uses the iPhone's Face ID depth sensor and reports more body composition detail, such as skeletal muscle mass and visceral fat, but it is iPhone only and costs $19.99 a month after one free scan.

What is a good ZOZOFIT alternative?

If you want a quicker scan and a workout plan built from your results, Fitycal is a ZOZOFIT alternative on iPhone and Android: a 10-second 360 degree scan, an HD avatar, 25+ measurements and side by side comparisons. If you want depth-sensor scanning on a Face ID iPhone, Bodymapp is the other option.

Do I need the ZOZOSUIT to use ZOZOFIT?

No. ZOZOFIT says the app scans without the suit; the ZOZOSUIT is optional and includes a free Premium upgrade (zozofit.com).

Does Bodymapp work on Android?

Not as of 16 October 2026. Bodymapp lists only the App Store and needs an iPhone with Face ID (bodymapp.co).

Which body scan app is the most accurate?

None of the three publishes a peer-reviewed DEXA comparison for its own body fat estimate. Research on phone scanning shows errors of about 3 to 4 body fat points for individuals but very consistent repeat scans, so pick one app, scan the same way each time and watch the trend.

The bottom line

All three apps can show you how your body changes. ZOZOFIT wins on price and track record, Bodymapp on depth sensing for Face ID iPhones. If you want a scan that takes seconds and a plan that follows from it, try Fitycal: do a 10-second scan with your phone today, scan again in four weeks, and compare the two side by side.
