MeThreeSixty Alternative: An Honest Fitycal vs MeThreeSixty Comparison

Updated 17 October 2026

MeThreeSixty is one of the best known body scan apps. It turns two photos into a 3D avatar, it is free to use at its standard level, and it has thousands of ratings on both app stores. So why look for a MeThreeSixty alternative? Usually for one of three reasons: you want a quicker scan, you want to see your full scan history without paying, or you want the scan to lead somewhere, like a training plan. This page compares MeThreeSixty and Fitycal side by side. Every MeThreeSixty fact comes from its own website, FAQ or store listings, checked on 17 October 2026.

Disclosure: Fitycal is our app. We have tried to be fair, and we say plainly where MeThreeSixty is the better pick.

Short version: Stick with MeThreeSixty if you want a free, well reviewed scanner with unlimited scans, GLP-1 dose tracking and published research from its developer. Pick Fitycal if you want a 10-second 360 degree scan, an HD avatar you can rotate, side by side scan comparisons and a monthly workout plan built from your latest scan, and you are fine paying after a free trial.

What MeThreeSixty is

MeThreeSixty is made by Size Stream, a body scanning company in Cary, North Carolina (methreesixty.com). You stand in two poses, front and side, and the app builds a 3D avatar and estimates your measurements and body composition from your silhouette. The app says it never uploads your photos to the cloud (Google Play). Its latest versions add GLP-1 medication and dose logging next to your scans (App Store).

What MeThreeSixty does well

  • Free, with no scan limit. The standard level is free and the FAQ says there is no limit on how many scans you can do (FAQ). For a budget, that is hard to beat.

  • Track record. About 18,000 App Store ratings at 4.7 and more than 500,000 Android downloads. Few body scan apps have that much public feedback.

  • Research from its developer. Size Stream publishes its own accuracy work. Its December 2025 paper reports that body fat mass estimates reached R² values above 0.96 against reference measurements (Hauser et al., 3DBODY.TECH Journal, 2025). Keep in mind this paper was written by Size Stream staff, not an independent group.

  • GLP-1 tracking. If you are on a GLP-1 medication, logging doses next to your scans in one app is genuinely useful. Fitycal does not have a medication log.

  • Privacy design. The app says it scans your silhouette and keeps your photos on your device (Google Play).

Where MeThreeSixty falls short

  • Setup is strict. The FAQ asks for form fitting, solid colored clothing that contrasts with the background, no prints or stripes, hair tied up so your neck shows, and wrinkles smoothed out (FAQ). Getting a clean scan takes some care.

  • You wait for results. Results need an internet connection and are usually ready a couple of minutes after the upload (FAQ). Premium is sold partly on faster processing.

  • History is capped on the free level. Free users see their five most recent scans; full history and comparison need Premium (FAQ). If you scan weekly, your older scans drop out of view after about five weeks.

  • No training plan. MeThreeSixty tracks your body, but it does not build a workout program from your results.

  • Phone requirements. The FAQ lists at least 4 GB of RAM and a 1080p front camera, and tablets are not supported.

Where Fitycal fits

Fitycal is built around a fast scan and what you do with it next. You turn 360 degrees in front of your phone for about 10 seconds, and the app builds an HD avatar you can rotate, plus body fat %, lean mass, fat mass and circumference measurements. You can put any two scans side by side and see what changed. After a scan, the app builds a monthly workout plan from your latest results, so your training follows your body rather than a generic template (App Store).

Where it is weaker: Fitycal is new, with only a handful of public ratings, and we have not published our own validation study. It is free during the trial only, then paid. It has no GLP-1 dose log. If those matter most to you, MeThreeSixty is the better choice.

How accurate are MeThreeSixty and Fitycal?

MeThreeSixty's FAQ says its body fat estimate is backed by a published paper comparing Size Stream's formula with standard methods, and Size Stream's 2025 paper describes ongoing gains in body fat accuracy (Hauser et al., 2025). We could not find an independent, peer-reviewed DEXA comparison of the current MeThreeSixty app.

Independent research on phone scanning in general points the same way for every app in this category. A 2024 study of a smartphone 3D scanning app in 131 adults found very high repeatability but a mean absolute error of about 3.5 body fat points against DXA (Tinsley et al., Frontiers in Medicine, 2024). That applies to Fitycal too: phone scans are best for tracking your own trend, not for one exact number. Our phone body scan vs DEXA accuracy guide explains why.

Why both apps ask for your weight

A camera sees shape, not mass. MeThreeSixty combines your weight, height and age with the scan (FAQ), and Fitycal asks for your current weight with every scan. Either way, keep an ordinary bathroom scale: the scan shows where your body changed, the scale gives the total.

When to stick with MeThreeSixty

  • You want a free scanner and do not mind a five-scan history window.

  • You are on a GLP-1 medication and want doses and scans in one place.

  • You value a long track record and developer-published accuracy work.

  • You mainly want measurements and a goal preview, not a training plan.

When Fitycal is the better MeThreeSixty alternative

  • You want a scan that takes seconds, with a full 360 degree turn instead of two poses.

  • You want an HD avatar you can rotate and clear side by side comparisons.

  • You want a monthly workout plan that updates from your latest scan.

FAQ

What is a good alternative to MeThreeSixty?

If you want a faster scan and a workout plan built from your results, Fitycal is a MeThreeSixty alternative on iPhone and Android: a 10-second 360 degree scan, an HD avatar, body fat and lean mass, side by side comparisons and a monthly plan. If you want another free option, ZOZOFIT has a free Base plan (zozofit.com).

What is the best free alternative to MeThreeSixty?

MeThreeSixty is itself one of the strongest free body scanners. Among other apps, ZOZOFIT offers a free Base plan with scans, measurements and comparisons (zozofit.com). Fitycal is free during its trial, then paid.

Is MeThreeSixty really free?

Yes, the standard level is free with unlimited scans, according to its FAQ. Free users see their five most recent scans; full history, faster processing and extra metrics come with Premium, listed at $4.99 a month or $19.99 to $39.99 a year on the US App Store.

Is MeThreeSixty accurate?

Its developer, Size Stream, publishes its own accuracy research, and reports strong agreement for body fat mass. Independent studies of phone scanning show very consistent repeat scans but errors of about 3 to 4 body fat points for individuals, so use any phone scan to track your trend.

Does MeThreeSixty make workout plans?

No workout plans are listed on its website or store pages. It focuses on scans, measurements, goals and GLP-1 tracking. Fitycal builds a monthly workout plan from your latest scan.

The bottom line

MeThreeSixty is a strong free scanner with a big user base, and for many people it is enough. If you want a scan that takes seconds and a plan that follows from it, try Fitycal: do a 10-second scan with your phone today, scan again in four weeks, and compare the two side by side.
