Bodymapp Alternative: An Honest Fitycal vs Bodymapp Comparison
Updated 17 October 2026
Bodymapp is one of the better known 3D body scan apps, but plenty of people go looking for a Bodymapp alternative. The most common reasons are simple: it does not run on Android, it needs an iPhone with working Face ID, and its monthly price is high for an app you might open once every few weeks. This page compares Bodymapp with Fitycal one to one, for people who are leaving Bodymapp or cannot use it. Every Bodymapp fact comes from its own website or App Store listing, checked on 17 October 2026.
Disclosure: Fitycal is our app. We have tried to be fair, and we say plainly where Bodymapp is the better pick.
Short version: Stick with Bodymapp if you have a Face ID iPhone and want depth-sensor scanning with detailed body composition, such as skeletal muscle mass, visceral fat and a muscle, bone, organ and water split. Pick Fitycal if you are on Android, have an iPhone without Face ID, or want a quick 360 degree camera scan, scans side by side and a monthly workout plan built from your latest scan. If you also want to weigh up ZOZOFIT, see our Fitycal vs ZOZOFIT vs Bodymapp comparison.

Prices are US store prices checked on 17 October 2026 and vary by region.
One thing we could not pin down: what Bodymapp's free plan includes. The App Store release notes mention "one free scan per customer", while the pricing page lists unlimited scans with a watermarked avatar on the free plan and puts reports, comparisons and health metrics behind Premium (App Store; bodymapp.co/premium). Expect to pay for Premium if you want to track change over time.
Why people look for a Bodymapp alternative
You are on Android. Bodymapp lists no Android app; its site and listing point only to the App Store (bodymapp.co).
Your iPhone has no working Face ID. The listing says Bodymapp only works on iPhones with working Face ID because it uses the TrueDepth sensor, so iPhone SE models are out (App Store). A phone with a broken Face ID module is out too.
The monthly price. $19.99 a month is steep if you scan every two to four weeks. The yearly plan at $49.99 is much better value, but you pay it up front (App Store).
You want a plan, not just numbers. Bodymapp gives posture tips and recommendations, but it does not list a full workout program built from your scan.
Inconsistent results for some users. On the US App Store, one recent reviewer said a body fat reading did not match their situation, and older reviews say results are better for tracking relative change than absolute numbers. With only 6 US ratings, that is thin evidence either way.
When to stick with Bodymapp
Bodymapp is the better pick in several real situations, and switching would be a step down:
You want depth sensing. The TrueDepth sensor measures depth directly instead of inferring shape from a flat camera image (App Store). Fitycal uses the normal camera.
You want more body composition detail. Skeletal muscle mass, visceral fat and a split into muscle, bone, organs and water are listed in Bodymapp's release notes. Fitycal reports body fat %, lean mass and fat mass, but not a visceral fat or organ and water breakdown.
You use Apple Health. Bodymapp Premium lists Apple Health integration (App Store).
Your gym already uses it. Bodymapp also has Bodymapp Pro, a free iPad Pro companion app for affiliate partners that scans clients on site (App Store).
You want long history behind the product. Bodymapp grew out of mPort, which ran body scanning pods before moving to a phone app (Club Solutions Magazine, 2023). Fitycal is newer.
Where Fitycal fits as a Bodymapp alternative
Fitycal is built around a fast scan and what you do next with it. You stand in front of your phone camera and turn for about 10 seconds; the app builds an HD 3D avatar you can rotate, along with body fat %, lean mass, fat mass and 25+ measurements. You can put any two scans side by side and see the change in each measurement, and each month you get a workout plan built from your latest scan. It runs on iPhone and Android, and it does not need Face ID, because it uses the normal camera.
Where it is weaker: Fitycal is new and has very few public ratings, it does not report visceral fat or a bone, organ and water split, and it does not track food. If those matter most to you and you have a Face ID iPhone, Bodymapp remains a good choice.
Why every Fitycal scan asks for your weight
A camera sees shape, not mass. Fitycal combines your body shape with your current weight to estimate fat mass and lean mass, so each scan asks you to enter your weight from any ordinary scale. Your scale still has a place in your routine: the scale gives the total, and the scan shows where the change happened.
How accurate are Bodymapp and Fitycal?
Bodymapp's website says "accurate body measurements" but gives no figures, method or validation study, and we could not find a peer-reviewed DEXA comparison of its body fat estimate (bodymapp.co). Fitycal has not published one either.
What we know comes from research on phone scanning in general. A 2024 study of a smartphone 3D scanning app in 131 adults found very high repeatability but a mean absolute error of about 3.5 body fat points against DXA (Tinsley et al., Frontiers in Medicine, 2024). In practice, both apps are best for tracking your own trend, not for one exact number. Our phone body scan vs DEXA accuracy guide explains what that means for you.

FAQ
What is a good alternative to Bodymapp?
If you are on Android or your iPhone has no Face ID, Fitycal is a Bodymapp alternative that uses the normal phone camera: a 10-second 360 degree scan, an HD 3D avatar, body fat %, lean mass, 25+ measurements, scans side by side and a monthly workout plan. If you want a free plan and lots of public reviews, ZOZOFIT is another option.
Is there a Bodymapp app for Android?
Not as of 17 October 2026. Bodymapp's website links only to the App Store, and the listing needs an iPhone with working Face ID (bodymapp.co; App Store). Android users need a different app, such as Fitycal or ZOZOFIT.
Does Bodymapp work on iPhone SE or without Face ID?
No. Bodymapp's listing says it only works on iPhone X or newer with working Face ID, not SE models, because it uses the TrueDepth sensor (App Store).
Is Bodymapp free?
It is free to download, but most tracking features need Premium at $19.99 a month, $29.99 a quarter or $49.99 a year on the US App Store. Its listing and pricing page describe the free plan differently, from one free scan to unlimited scans with a watermarked avatar.
Is Fitycal more accurate than Bodymapp?
Neither app publishes a peer-reviewed DEXA comparison of its own body fat estimate. Research on phone scanning shows errors of about 3 to 4 body fat points for individuals but very consistent repeat scans, so the best app is the one you use the same way every time.
The bottom line
Bodymapp is a solid app if you have a Face ID iPhone and want depth sensing and detailed composition numbers. If you are on Android, on an iPhone without Face ID, or you want a scan that leads straight into a training plan, try Fitycal: do a 10-second scan with your phone today, scan again in four weeks, and compare the two side by side.
