Withings BodyFit Alternative: A 3D Body Scan on Your Phone

Updated 3 November 2026

Withings launched BodyFit in June 2026 as a body composition scale for people on GLP-1 medication, athletes and anyone losing weight. It is a good scale. It also costs $279.95 and gives you numbers, not a picture of your shape. If you are searching for a Withings BodyFit alternative, this guide compares it with a 10-second 3D body scan on your phone: what each measures, what each costs and who should pick which. Withings facts come from Withings' own US press release (2 June 2026), checked on 3 November 2026.

Disclosure: Fitycal is our app. We say plainly where BodyFit is the better choice.

One thing first: a phone scan is not a way to skip the scale. Every Fitycal scan asks for your current weight, and any ordinary bathroom scale gives you that. The real choice is between a body composition smart scale and an ordinary scale plus a phone scan.

What Withings BodyFit is

According to Withings' press release, BodyFit is:

  • A smart scale with a retractable handle. Eight electrodes (four in the handle, four in the platform) measure 6 body zones, so you see arms, legs and trunk separately.

  • Bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) at 13 frequencies up to 800 kHz, with a 10-second body composition scan inside a 20-second weigh-in.

  • 40+ data points, including fat mass, muscle mass and visceral fat, plus a calorie balance estimate and habit suggestions in the Withings app.

  • Pitched to GLP-1 users, with zone-by-zone muscle-to-fat tracking so you can see whether weight loss is fat or muscle.

  • $279.95 in the US (from 2 June 2026), and EUR 249.95 or GBP 229.95 in Europe and the UK from 1 July 2026.

  • One free month of Withings+, the subscription that adds an AI health assistant and a one-hour nutritionist session. After the trial Withings+ is $9.95 a month (Withings terms); the scale itself works in the free Withings app.

Withings reports that in a 2025 study with the Mon Stade sports-health centre across 80 participants, its 6-zone measurements reached up to 99% correlation with DEXA for fat mass and up to 98% for muscle mass. The release notes this study was run on Withings Body Scan, the $499.95 model, not on BodyFit itself. Correlation also measures how well readings move together, not how far apart they are for one person.

What a 10-second 3D phone scan does

With Fitycal you prop your phone up, turn 360 degrees in front of the camera for about 10 seconds and enter your weight. The app builds an HD 3D avatar of your body and estimates body fat %, lean mass, fat mass and circumferences such as waist, hips, chest, arms and thighs (App Store listing). You can rotate the avatar, put two scans side by side and see where your shape changed. A monthly workout plan is built from your latest scan.

What it does not do: it does not weigh you, it does not measure visceral fat with electrical current, and it does not give a daily reading the way a scale on your bathroom floor can. Most people scan every 2 to 4 weeks.

Worked example: one year of tracking

Say you already own an ordinary bathroom scale and want to track body composition for 12 months.

  • BodyFit, scale only: $279.95 once, readings every morning in the free Withings app.

  • BodyFit with Withings+ after the trial: $279.95 plus 11 months at $9.95, about $389 in year one.

  • Phone scan: no new hardware, plus the app subscription you pick after the free trial.

Withings itself frames BodyFit against DEXA, which it puts at $100 to $300 per scan out of pocket. That is a fair point for both tools: home tracking lets you check every few weeks, where most people only get DEXA once a year or two.

Who should pick which

Pick Withings BodyFit if you want a daily reading without thinking about it, you care about segmental numbers per arm and leg, you want visceral fat tracked by impedance, or your GLP-1 care program already uses Withings devices (Withings says its health division works with more than 30 virtual obesity programs). Note that bioimpedance shifts with hydration, so weigh at the same time each day. People with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device should check Withings' safety guidance before using any impedance scale.

Pick a 3D phone scan if you want to see your shape change, not only read numbers about it. A rotatable avatar and a side by side comparison show where you lost inches, which a scale cannot. It also suits you if you do not want another device, you travel, or you want waist, hip and thigh measurements without a tape. It is useful on a GLP-1 too: our GLP-1 muscle tracking guide shows how to watch lean mass against fat mass across check-ins.

Use both if you already own BodyFit. Its weight reading is exactly what the phone scan needs, and the two tools answer different questions: what is my composition today, and how has my shape changed this month.

How accurate is each?

Neither replaces DEXA for a single exact number. In a 2024 study of 131 adults, a phone 3D scan averaged about 3.5 body fat percentage points from DXA, but repeat scans agreed within about half a point (Tinsley et al., Frontiers in Medicine, 2024). That makes a phone scan strong for your own trend. Withings' DEXA figures are correlations from its own study on a sibling model. FAQ

What is a good Withings BodyFit alternative?

If you want a body composition scale, other smart scales do a similar job. If you want something different, a 3D phone scan app such as Fitycal shows a rotatable avatar of your body, body fat %, lean mass and measurements in a 10-second scan, using the weight from any ordinary scale.

Is Withings BodyFit better than a 3D body scan?

It is better for daily, hands-off readings and segmental impedance data. A 3D scan is better for seeing your shape, tracking measurements like waist and hips, and comparing two moments side by side. Many people would be well served by either; some use both.

Does a phone body scan app work without a scale?

Not fully. A phone camera sees your shape, not your mass, so Fitycal asks for your current weight with every scan. You do not need a smart scale, just any ordinary bathroom scale.

Do I need Withings+ to use BodyFit?

No. Withings includes a free month of Withings+ and the scale works in the free Withings app. Withings+ adds an AI health assistant and nutritionist access for $9.95 a month after the trial.

Which is better for tracking muscle on a GLP-1?

Both can show the trend. BodyFit gives daily muscle and fat estimates by body zone; a phone scan every 2 to 4 weeks shows lean mass, fat mass and where your shape changes. Share the trend with your prescriber rather than reacting to a single reading.

See your shape change, not just your numbers

If you already own a scale, you already have half of what you need. Try Fitycal free: enter today's weight, turn in front of your phone for 10 seconds, and compare your next scan side by side.
