Spren Alternative for Android: Body Composition Apps That Run on Your Phone
Updated 20 October 2026
Spren is one of the best known phone body composition apps: take a full-body photo, get body fat, lean mass and a detailed report. If you have an Android phone, though, you will hit a wall. This page explains Spren's Android status, what Spren does well, and which Android apps come closest. Every Spren and competitor fact comes from the company's own website or store listing, checked on 20 October 2026.
Disclosure: Fitycal is our app. We have tried to be fair, and we say where Spren or another app is the better pick.
Short version: Spren's consumer app is listed as "Only for iPhone". On Android, Fitycal, MeThreeSixty and ZOZOFIT all estimate body composition with the phone camera. MeThreeSixty and ZOZOFIT have free plans; Fitycal adds a 3D avatar, side by side scan comparisons and a monthly workout plan built from your latest scan.
Is Spren available on Android?
Not as a consumer app, as of 20 October 2026:
Spren does offer its technology to other companies through an SDK that its business page says is "Compatible with iOS, Android, React Native, & Flutter" (Spren for business). That means another Android app could build Spren's scan in, but it is not a Spren app you can download yourself.
What Spren does well
From Spren's App Store listing and site:
Detailed body composition. A multi-page PDF report with body fat %, fat mass, lean mass, A/G fat ratio and resting metabolic rate, compared with healthy and optimal ranges from published research.
Published research. Spren has more independent validation work than most phone apps. A 2026 study found repeat scans agreed almost perfectly, though Spren read about 2.2 body fat points higher than BODPOD on average, with larger overestimation in women (Sisohor et al., PLOS Digital Health).
AI coaching. Recent versions add quick access to an AI coach, with paid coaching options.
Strong ratings. 4.7 from about 1,500 US App Store ratings.
Where it falls short: iPhone only, no 3D avatar or body measurements like waist and hips, and plans from $14.99 a month or $69.99 a year. Some reviewers mention trouble getting the app to read their photos.

Which Android alternative should you pick?
You mainly want Spren's numbers (body fat, fat mass, lean mass, metabolic rate): Fitycal reports all four, from a camera scan plus your weight.
You want free: MeThreeSixty or ZOZOFIT.
You want to see shape, not only numbers: any of the three, since all build a 3D view; ZOZOFIT has the most measurement points.
You are on a GLP-1: MeThreeSixty logs doses next to your scans.
You want a training plan that follows your results: Fitycal.
Fitycal is new, with few public ratings, and it does not have Spren's body of published research. If research depth matters most and you can use an iPhone, Spren is still a strong pick.
How to get consistent readings on an Android phone
Prop the phone at a steady height, against a book or on a shelf, not in your hand.
Use even light from the front, not a bright window behind you.
Wear fitted clothing and the same outfit each time.
Use a plain background with space to turn.
Scan at the same time of day, ideally in the morning before eating.
Enter a fresh weight from your regular scale before each scan.
Why every Fitycal scan needs your weight
A camera sees shape, not mass. Fitycal combines your body shape with the weight you enter to estimate fat mass and lean mass, so each scan asks for your current weight from any ordinary scale. The scan shows where change happened; the scale gives the total.
How accurate are phone body composition apps?
No phone app matches DEXA for every person. Research on phone 3D scanning shows an average error of about 3.5 body fat points against DXA, with repeat scans agreeing within about half a point (Tinsley et al., Frontiers in Medicine, 2024). Independent research on Spren shows the same pattern: very repeatable, with some systematic difference from lab methods. Use any of these apps for trends. Our phone body scan vs DEXA accuracy guide has the details.
FAQ
Is Spren available on Android?
Not as a consumer app. As of 20 October 2026, Spren's App Store listing says "Only for iPhone", its old Google Play listing returns "not found", and the download link on spren.com opens the App Store. Spren's SDK for businesses supports Android, but that is for other companies' apps.
What is the best Spren alternative for Android?
If you want Spren's main numbers on Android, Fitycal reports body fat %, fat mass, lean mass and resting metabolic rate from a 10-second 360 degree scan, plus a 3D avatar and side by side comparisons. MeThreeSixty and ZOZOFIT are free alternatives with 3D scans and body fat estimates.
Is there a free body fat scanner app for Android?
MeThreeSixty and ZOZOFIT both have free plans on Android that estimate body fat from a phone camera scan. Fitycal has a free trial, then a subscription.
Can an Android phone measure body fat accurately?
Well enough for trends. Phone camera scans average about 3 to 4 body fat points from DEXA for individuals but give very consistent repeat readings, so scanning the same way every few weeks shows your direction reliably.
Do I need a smart scale to use a body composition app?
No. Apps that estimate fat mass and lean mass need your current weight, but any ordinary scale is enough.
The bottom line
Spren is a well researched body composition app, but only on iPhone. On Android, you can still track body fat and lean mass with your camera. If you want a quick scan, a 3D avatar and a plan that follows from it, try Fitycal: enter your weight, do a 10-second scan today, scan again in four weeks, and compare the two side by side.
